The title of the work, Même l’eau a l’air fausse (Even the Water Looks Fake) (2015 / 2017), is borrowed from a French novel. In one scene, the protagonist looks at a fountain in a shopping mall. She realizes that nothing in this place – and thus in her life up to that point – not even the water, seems real to her anymore. The video shows the movement of waves on a flat sandy beach, where the spray forms a shapeless expanse that constantly creates new patterns. Numerous cuts disrupt the naturalistic depiction of the sea, making the movements and the sound seem unreal. By projecting the image onto a corner of the room, the impression is created that we are part of the scene.
