The terms text, texture, and textile are closely related and derive from the Latin words textus, textura, and textile. They refer to a specific structure, a fabric, an arrangement, or a framework. Textiles with traditional color schemes, materials, and patterns can be interpreted as transcriptions of culture. They represent both individual artistic styles and aspects of collective identity. The series Mantas I–IV (2017) presents a handwoven manta in the frontal view of a reproduction setup. The drapings allude to the manual processing of fabrics. A rising trompe-l’œil effect emerges, contrasting with the claim to objectivity inherent in scientific representation.
